My husband and I were looking to relocate from Northern New Jersey to Delaware and as first time home buyers, we were feeling a bit overwhelmed. Moving out of state can be challenging enough and having never gone through the process before, we knew the most important thing we were looking for in a realtor would be honesty. The first time we spoke with Helen over the phone, we let out a sigh of relief that she was straightforward and didn’t give us this over the top and uncomfortable sales pitch. Prices seemed to be sky rocketing due to the pandemic and others we had spoken to left us feeling pressured to make concessions we wouldn’t feel comfortable with. We quickly felt a sense of comfort and trust in Helen that she would truly have our best interests at heart. We weren’t “just another client” for her. She cared, listened, and understood what we were looking for but maybe, more importantly, understood what our limits were. Helen was exactly what we needed when we decided to look for a house in a 55+ community since we were unsure if this was the move we were ready to make and what we wanted. We were impressed with her from our first meeting. Helen came totally prepared with printouts about the various communities in the Middletown area. She drove us around to view the communities, while giving us pertinent information about the town and surrounding areas. Helen was the ultimate professional and showed concern to make sure our needs would be met during the decision making process. Once we decided to build she was very helpful in assisting us with making decisions about upgrades and other considerations for the new home. She supported us throughout the build process and she still provides advice and referrals for contractors in the area. We consider ourselves extremely lucky to have contacted Helen at the beginning of the process to search for another home and we highly recommend Helen for her professionalism, knowledge and the care she puts into her relationship with her clients.

We visited several of the active adult communities in Delaware on our own. However, when it came down to making the final choice, Helen Garton offered invaluable data, insights, patience, and advice to help us make the right choice. Throughout the process, she provided a guiding hand in the selection of the community, model, lot, options, and materials. Since we were living out of state during the construction, she also sent us pictures of the house during construction. She accompanied us at the sales office during the contract signing, offering suggestions, as well as the pre-drywall inspection, the pre-settlement inspection, and the settlement day walk-through. She would have accompanied us to the settlement but was prohibited due to the COVID-19 restrictions. In summary we are happy with our active adult community in Middletown, thanks in no small part to Helen Garton.

She guided us through every step of the process of buying a new construction home, from searching for the ideal location for us, to finalizing the purchase on settlement date. We never felt pressured and knew she always had our best interests at heart. Due to Covid-19 travel restrictions, we were not able to monitor the home build as closely as we would have under normal circumstances. Helen stepped up to the plate, keeping us informed of progress, sending photos each week and attending a walk-through in our absence. When we traveled from North Carolina to Delaware in order to begin our house-search, we had no idea that we would be so fortunate as to meet Helen Garton of eXp Realty. She would prove to be the perfect realtor for us. From the moment we spoke with her on the phone, we could tell that she was knowledgeable, compassionate and sincere. Our goals became her goals; our concerns became her concerns, and we were able to put our trust in her without hesitation. On the first day that we met, Helen drove us around Middletown, DE to see several 55+ communities and to get a feel for the area. She then took the added step of taking us to apartments where we might find temporary housing. The need for this was based on the fact that we were leaning toward new construction and since our house had sold quickly and we would need a place to stay while a new house was being built. Assistance in obtaining this accommodation was well above and beyond what most realtors might do. Helen was by our side throughout this long process. She was with us when we spoke to sales people, when we explored various communities, when we considered getting a quick delivery, and ultimately with us at "pre-drywall" and the final walk-thru. Her guidance and her friendship made an otherwise difficult process a pleasant experience that resulted in us owning the home that we might not have found without Helen's support and expertise. Although Helen is not my Real Estate agent, I recommended to her that she become one. Here’s why. I have known Helen for 10 years. I observed firsthand how she handled the preparations for the sale of her own home in Metro DC. She played project manager and general contractor on what upgrades to do based on need and cost. She then completely decluttered and staged the home. And even though she had an agent, it was Helen who gave a personally guided tour to a young woman who ‘just wanted to see her kitchen’. She had a contract after 4 days on the market from that same young woman. I asked Helen to help me with the same process for my 1850 historic home in Southern Maine. Working with me and my Realtor Dave, she gave the same attention to detail, including working with Efficiency Maine on conducting an energy audit and implementing the recommendations. After her guidance on staging my home, I had a contract in 2 days!! It is because of her abilities that I recommended to her that she become an agent. Thank goodness she did. Helen is a native Delawarean with family roots in Middletown going back more than 200 years. She is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a Federal retiree with a specialization in IT and Project Management. She is ready to apply her business background and her exceptional attention to detail to what she calls a ‘client-centric philosophy;’ that is, putting her clients in a home that is best suited for their current and/or future needs. Her background in diversity along with her outgoing personality allows her to connect with all people.Helen holds a business degree from Southern New Hampshire University, a MBA from Strayer University and a Doctorate in Management from the University of Maryland University College. Helen is a member of the National Association of Realtors (NAR), the Delaware Association of Realtors (DAR), and the New Castle County Board of Realtors (NCCBOR) and Sussex County Board of Realtors (SCAOR).
Helen is an avid Orioles, Ravens, Red Sox and Patriots fan; and in her spare time, she enjoys yoga, the beach, traveling to Maine and working in the yard.
